Interesting Move

The cavaliers managed to turn an injury-prone, aging point guard into a second-year big who was a mid-first round pick in last year's draft. The Cavs traded David Wesley to the Nawlins Hornets for Cedric Simmons, a raw, defensive big man with above-average athleticism. He's young and plays 4/5. Methinks Anderson Varejao's bargaining position took a hit. I can somewhat understand why the Hornets made the trade: They drafted Hilton Armstrong and Cedric Simmons as insurance in case Tyson Chandler underacheived, but Chandler had a career year last year and Armstrong showed a lot more polish offensively while not giving up much defensively. The hornets are seemingly in a playoffs or bust mode, with the acquisitions of Peja Stojakovic and Bobby Jackson last year and MoPete this year and the trades that sent out JR Smith and Simmons. Strange that they're spending so much money on middling to above average players when their cornerstones, Chandler and Paul, are as young as any duo in the league outside of Seattle/OKC/Clay Bennett-is-a-douche. I guess when Chandler and Paul are hitting their true primes these deals should come off the books and allow for a couple key signings. Let's just hope they aren't in the bidding for Simmons or Smith when they blow up.

FREE LAMAR!!!

In my first post with content, I feel like talking about one of my favorite players ever: Lamar Odom. Odom was a favorite of mine from his rookie year with the baby Clips. I was a young, transplanted Kings Fan living in southern cal and the NBA season was dominated by televised games of the Evil Laker Empire, and I couldn't bear to watch them more than once a week for fear of retribution from the NorCal Basketball Gods. I instead turned my attention towards the clips: D-Miles and Q-Rich provided the foundation for my post-basket celebrations in Rec League, McInnis for my ballhoggery, and Odom for the certainty that I would never be an NBA player. I've never watched a player have that many skills and lack the assertiveness to consistently dominate, a feat which seems like it would be easier and more natural for him than to defer. He's long, athletic, has great court vision and rebounding acumen, range on his J, post moves, handles. He's absurd. And Kobe Bryant, (another of my favorite players because he possesses every skill on the planet and i love versatility) can't seem to mesh with him. Now Shawn Marion wants out. This might be just what they need to switch stuff up and keep Kobe partially content. Cook and Odom for Marion works, as does LO +Farmar +Vujacic. But I think LA needs to gameplan for cap room, and that's where my modest proposal comes in: Radmanovic+LO+a pick (1st or 2nd) for Marion. LA gets more cap room sooner if Marion opts out and they're out from under the Radman's deal. If they then can't placate and must trade Kobe for an expiring plus a couple promising kids next summer, they would have just rebuilt their team in no time. Then again, a team centered around Javaris Crittenton doesn't sound too promising. And that's coming from a guy whose last name is Crittenden. Back to the original point, a team that could run out Nash, Diaw, and Odom would probably average 30 assists a game while having another sturdy post-d option. Radmanvic would be able to fill the '06 Tim Thomas role nicely, except with less defense and more braids. Plus, as the infallible Kelly Dwyer pointed out during his video breakdown of the baby clips vs the t'wolves, 4Q, 9:29: Odom works in the post, quickly, and lays it in over KG. I've never seen anyone, with the possible exception of Tim Duncan, give Garnett more fits than Odom. This could be a major plus if the Suns were to face the C's in the finals. Wait, who am I kidding, the suns would crush the celtics with Marion or Odom. I digress, Odom would be a wonder to watch in D'Antoni's system, And Marion would be able to take advantage of Bryant's somewhat uderrated proclivity for lob passes while giving the Lakers similar rebounding over, more than likely, more games. I want to see this happen because the Suns take me back to my glory years as a Kings fan, and if one of my all time faves can get them a championship, all the better.

introduction

Hello, interwebs. My name is Chris. I like to write, and I read a surreal amount of blogs. I have finally given in and decided to create a blog, largely based on a post from BlazersEdge with Henry Abbott and my thorough enjoyment of Tom Ziller, Louis Gray, and section214 on SactownRoyalty. This area will (hopefully) soon be filled with thoughts on sports, music, and the absurd happenings in our world. I will likely mix in creative writing in the form of poetry and possibly a rare story. Anyways, here's to an organizational tool for the inner workings of my brain. If you are reading this, thank you, and hopefully some decent content will be up shortly.
